TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

I believe that children are our future and that we should pour into them as much positivity, love, respect, and discipline as we absolutely can. If we start looking at them for who they are to become and treating them as such, we guarantee a better future. This is one of the main reasons I wanted to become an educator—to influence the next leaders in the world, to engage in their development, to steady and ready them for the world outside of their communities, and to prepare them to lead.  I believe all children deserve an education, the right to learn and to be able to enjoy learning.  Education is a vital tool that can teach children the fundamental skills necessary to live as confident and informed citizens. Students should have a safe place/environment to share thoughts and connections without ridicule or judgment.

I believe a teacher's job is to positively impact children's lives and engage them in meaningful thinking and learning. An educator should also be willing to be a helping hand in the growth and development of the future of our nation. I believe that teaching is a gratifying career that allows me to create the change I wish to see in the world by offering my services to sculpt the young minds of the future. My mission is to instill a love of lifelong learning and advocating for change and ensure that my students are capable of thriving in today's world and the new world of their own. I want to be an ear for students who have no one to listen to and encourage blended friendships of different races, genders, and socioeconomic family backgrounds. I also would like to stand for those who may suffer discrimination from other teachers, administration, and the like.

My key strategies are to remain flexible, be open to change, and communicate successfully with parents and students. I want to have a great professionality and personally engage and connect with my students. I've learned in many different areas throughout life that there is a time and place for everything, so within my reign as an educator, I would like to create those open spaces for students and parents to be vulnerable to any issues, suggestions, or questions they may have. I am willing to offer any service to pursue the overall well-being of my students, even if it requires more one-on-one sessions with them. I want my students to be active participants in learning by any means. If any seminars, professional developments, and the like are offered for me to be a helping hand with my students, I am willing to invest time and effort in doing so. I plan to be there for my students in any capacity.

I am willing to create plans that are “outside of the box" as the district sees fit to help promote more healthy learning patterns in students. I want students to know that my classroom is a haven, in conjunction with providing them with the necessary resources they may need to succeed in every aspect of life, especially in education. I am open to all feedback from students, parents, colleagues, and administration to better myself and my skills as an educator. I want to create a curriculum that will contribute to my students' social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development.  I want to bring global awareness to my students to show them how we are all connected no matter where we are from. Being an African American woman challenges me to see the good in everything and be cautious about presenting myself. Yet, I want to break free from my ethnicity and sexual orientation societal notions. I want my students to be able to do the same.
